Lorsque Mintinbox s’est rendu au World Record Night au Rancho Obi-Wan le samedi 2 novembre 2013, une petite ville bien spéciale était sur notre route, San Anselmo. Dans cette petite ville du comté de Marin en Californie y réside une personne qui ne nous ai pas inconnu… le cinéaste George Lucas. Ayant acheté une vieille maison victorienne à San Anselmo, c’est à cet endroit que sont nées Star Wars et Indiana Jones. George y a imaginé d’abord l’histoire du grand aventurier, pour ensuite écrire en grande partie le script de la Guerre des Étoiles et projeté notamment une première version sans effets spéciaux pour un petit groupe d’amis à son domicile en 1977, on connaît tous la suite
Pour rendre hommage à George Lucas pour ces deux grandes créations, la ville de San Anselmo a construit à l’été 2013 un parc pour la communauté avec une fontaine mettant en vedette les statues de deux populaires personnages de ces grandes sagas, Yoda et Indiana Jones. Pour aider à la réalisation de ce parc, George a fait don des frais de démolition du vieux bâtiment s’y trouvant, ainsi que des deux statues réalisées par le sculpteur Lawrence A. Noble. Ces deux statues ont d’ailleurs été dévoilées le jeudi 20 juin 2013 alors que le parc n’était pas encore achevé. Le parc a été inauguré officiellement le 24 août 2013.
When the Mintinbox team went to the World Record Night at Rancho Obi-Wan on Saturday, November 2sd 2013, a very special little town named San Anselmo was on our way. In this small town in the Marin County (CA) lives the famous filmmaker George Lucas. Having bought an old Victorian house in San Anselmo, this is where Star Wars and Indiana Jones were born. First, George imagined there the story of our great adventurers, then wrote the main script of Star Wars and screened a first version without special effects for a small group of happy friends at his home in 1977, everyone knows what happened next …
To pay homage to George Lucas for these two great creations, the city of San Anselmo built during summer 2013 a community park with a fountain featuring statues of two popular characters from the great sagas, Yoda and Indiana Jones . To help achieving this park, George paid the cost of demolition of the old building located there, as well as the two statues made by the sculptor Lawrence A. Noble. Both statues have also been unveiled Thursday, June 20th 2013 as the park was not yet completed. Then, the park was officially opened August 24th, 2013.
Nous avons donc fait une petite visite à ce nouvel attrait, qui a été baptisé Imagination Park, situé au 535 San Anselmo Avenue. À notre arrivée, nous sommes enchantés par cette petite ville typique, qui est très paisible et où il y semble faire bon vivre. Bordée de petites boutiques et restaurants, le parc est bien aménagé, avec arbres, arbustes, luminaires et diverses allées avec quelques bancs afin de prendre repos. Au fond y trône la magnifique fontaine de 4,5 mètres de diamètre, avec de belles pierres, et au centre, les bronzes life-size de Yoda et Indiana Jones dos à dos. Nous vous reviendrons à propos du bronze de Yoda en fin de reportage avec un petit historique de la pièce.
Quant à la statue d’Indy, c’est une réplique unique grandeur nature d’un bronze de 24 pouces de haut limité à 18 exemplaires, vendu en exclu sur le défunt StarWarsShop. Fouet à la main, nous admirons les moindres détails du grand aventurier avec sa pose légendaire, il est tout simplement grandiose. Malgré tous les moindres détails, nos amis de Jones-Jr nous ont fait remarquer l’absence de la fameuse cicatrice au menton de l’acteur.
So we made a visit to this new attraction, which was called Imagination Park, located at 535 San Anselmo Avenue. Upon our arrival, we were delighted by the typical small town, which is very quiet and seems a great place to live. Lined with small shops and restaurants, the park is well structured with trees, shrubs, lights and various walkways with benches to take some rest. In the background there stands the magnificent 4.5 meters diameter fountain, with beautiful stones and at its cente stands the bronze life-size Yoda and Indiana Jones back to back. We will get back about the bronze Yoda at the end of this report with a little history of the piece.
Concerning the statue of Indy, this is a replica of a 24 inches tall bronze statue limited to only 18 copies, sold exclusively on the old StarWarsShop website. Whip in hand, we admire every detail of the great adventurer with his legendary pose, it is simply magnificent. Despite all the details, our friends at Jones-Jr did notice the absence of the famous scar on his chin.
Vous pourrez voir parmi les photos qu’il y a un peu partout des plaques spéciales, notamment sur les bancs et de chaque côté des statues. En plus des plaques commémoratives de Star Wars et Indiana Jones, ce sont des plaques marquées pour les personnes qui ont fait un don de type “sponsor” à la ville de San Anselmo afin d’améliorer et préserver le nouveau parc. L’Imagination Park est d’ailleurs toujours en quête de dons ici, vous pouvez donc donner généreusement. Une idée d’un arbre commémoratif avec des feuilles gravées au nom de tous les donateurs prendra sans doute place au parc.
You can see from the photos that there are many dedicated plates all around, including on benches and statues on each side. In addition to the plaques of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, the other plates are mentionning people who have donated to the city of San Anselmo to improve and maintain the new park. The Fantasy Park is also always looking for donations here, so you can give generously here. A project of a memorial tree with engraved names of all donors will undoubtedly find its place in the park.
Nous avons ainsi profité de ce superbe après-midi ensoleillé pour prendre une petite bouchée en compagnie de Yoda et Indy, un bon sandwich fait dans une petite boulangerie tout prêt du parc, quel moment de pur bonheur !
En face du parc se trouve 3 Ring Cycles, une boutique qui a attiré notre attention avec quelques produits dérivés Star Wars dans sa vitrine. À l’intérieur se trouvent notamment d’originaux T-shirts Star Wars ainsi que l’affiche créée spécialement pour l’Imagination Park. Nous repartons chacun avec un petit souvenir de notre passage, nous en profitons pour saluer la propriétaire, madame Lindsay McKenzie, qui nous a si gentiment accueillis.

We enjoyed the wonderful sunny afternoon to take some time around Yoda and Indy with a good sandwich made in a small bakery close to the park. Is was a time of pure happiness!
On the opposite of the park we could find the 3 Ring Cycles shop that caught our attention due to some Star Wars products in its showcase. You would find inside original Star Wars T-shirts and posters created especially for the Fantasy Park. Of course we had to buy a souvenir from our visit and we took the opportunity to greet the owner, Ms. Lindsay McKenzie, who so graciously welcomed us.
