Il y a déjà un moment, nous avons eu la chance de faire une interview audio avec Monsieur Ario Anindito, artiste de comics et illustrateur.
Si le nom ne vous dit rien, c’est presque normal : souvent lorsque l’on parle de comics, on se souviendra de l’auteur. Si je vous dis Charles Soul, Cavan Scott, Stan Lee, ce sont des noms qui vous parlent. Mais qu’en est-il des illustrateurs ? C’est une autre histoire. Allez-y, donnez-moi trois noms d’illustrateurs, j’attends…
Cela étant dit, bien souvent, surtout du côté de Star Wars, et donc de Marvel, beaucoup d’illustrateurs sont ou nord-américains ou européens. Et je pense que vous voyez où je veux en venir. Contrairement aux sonorités de son nom, Ario Anindito n’est pas italien – ceux qui parlent la langue de Mario l’auront deviné. Il nous vient d’un lointain pays, qui est l’un des pays les plus peuplés du monde…
Couple of months ago, we got the opportunity to have an interview with Mister Ario Anindito, comic artist and illustrator.
If the name doesn’t ring any bell to you, let’s say it is relatively normal: often when we speak about comic books, we will mention its author. If I say Charles Soul, Cavan Scott, Stan Lee, these names would be familiar to you. But what about the illustrators? That’s another matter. OK, give me the names of three illustrators without using any search engine… I’ll wait for you…
That being said, often, and specially on the Star Wars side, and so on the Marvel side, many illustrators are either from North America or from Europe. I think you know where this is going. Despite the sounds of his name, Ario Anindito is not Italian – the ones used to the language of Mario would have guessed. He is from a faraway country, among the ones with the biggest population…
Un pays composé en fait de plus de 17.000 îles… Si je vous dis Bali, est-ce que vous deviné le pays ? Voilà, il s’agit de l’Indonésie. Pays très riche en ressources naturelles (pétrole… même si aujourd’hui, il faut essayer de faire sans, palme… euh oui, là aussi, il faut réduire la consommation), à majorité musulmane modérée, des paysages et des personnes magnifiques, et, cela peut sembler évident, une culture des plus différentes de la culture européenne et occidentale. Donc il est vrai que lorsque l’on parle de comics, on ne pense pas forcément à un artiste originaire de cet archipel.
Ario Anindito a bien voulu accepter notre interview, qui fait un peu plus de soixante-dix minutes. Nous allons essayer de vous présenter l’artiste, sa carrière, sa façon de faire en général et avec Lucasfilm, et aussi comment il perçoit Star Wars et d’autres domaines.
Avant de commencer, je tiens à le remercier pour son temps qu’il nous a accordé, sa disponibilité, sa bonne humeur communicative et pour ses photos issues de sa collection personnelle qu’il a bien voulu partager avec les lecteurs de MintInBox.net.

This country has more than 17,000 islands…And if I mention Bali, would you guess the country? Here we are, it is Indonesia. A country with many natural riches (oil… even today we should avoid using oil, palm… err… well we should also reduce the consumption of palm oil), the population is mostly moderate Muslim, the landscapes and the people are marvellous. And, even if that sounds obvious, the country’s culture is very different from the Westerners’ and European ones. So, it is true that when we speak about comics, we don’t necessarily think about an artist from that archipelago.
Ario Anindito accepted to be interviewed. This interview, in its audio-form is more than seventy minutes long. We will present you the artist, his career, his working habits with Lucasfilm and others, and also his special point of view about Star Wars and other areas.
Before starting, I would like to thank him for his time, his great availability, his contagious good humour and for personal photographs from his own collection that he is willing to share with MintInBox.net’s readers.
