Quel est ton parcours en tant qu’illustrateur et dessinateur ? Tu as suivi une école particulière ?
Je dessine depuis mes cinq ans. Après une scolarité classique ponctuée de gribouillages intensifs, j’ai « expérimenté » la fac d’Arts Plastiques pendant 2 ans puis je suis entré aux Gobelins pour y suivre une formation en cinéma d’animation. Après un bref détour par les effets spéciaux chez BUF cie, je me suis lancé en freelance dans le storyboard. Pendant plus de 10 ans, j’exerçais dans des milieux aussi variés que la publicité, le cinéma la presse et l’événementiel. Je suis désormais illustrateur, « concept artist » et auteur. En parallèle de tout cela, je travaille depuis plusieurs années sur La Mécanique de la Pomme, un roman illustré, entièrement rédigé et dessiné par mes soins.
What is your professional background as an artist?Did you follow any specific courses / schools / universties or are you an autodidact ?
I draw since I’m five. After a classical education punctuated of intensive foofles I “experienced” college of Fine Arts for two years and then I entered at “The Gobelins” (famouse french art school) to follow a training in animation. After a brief detour to the special effects at BUF Cie, I started freelancing in storyboard. For over ten years, I practiced in such diverse areas as advertising, film and media events. I am now a “concept artist” illustrator and author. Parallel to this, I worked for several years on The Mechanics of Apple, a graphic novel, entirely written and designed by me.
Comment t’es-tu retrouvé à dessiner du Star Wars ?
Comment es-tu rentré dans le monde de l’artfan Star Wars ?
Par ma simple initiative je dois dire. D’une part pour partager ma passion pour cet univers et ainsi attirer l’attention de la fanbase sur mon travail. D’autre part, pour rendre l’attente de The Force Awakens moins pénible et plus ludique.
How have you been involved in illustrating Star Wars?
How did you get involved into the Star Wars’ art/fan universe?
By my simple initiative I have to say. For one to share my passion for this universe and attract the attention of the fanbase on my work. On the other hand, to make the wait less difficult to The Force Awakens and more playful.
Quel est ton film Star Wars préféré ?
Question piège ! Pour moi ce serait comme choisir parmi ses enfants ! J’aime tous les films pour des raisons parfois fondamentalement différentes. Mais disons que dans mon top 3, on retrouve Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens et Revenge of The Sith.

What is your favorite Star Wars movie?
Trick question ! For me it would be like choosing among his children! I like all movies sometimes for fundamentally different reasons. But my top 3 include Empire Strikes Back, The Force Awakens and Revenge of The Sith.

Quel est le personnage que tu aimes le plus dessiner ? Brièvement pourquoi ?
Ces derniers temps, probablement Rey. Brièvement ? Sans doute car je suis tombé sous le charme ! ahah
What is the character you prefer to draw? Please explain us why.
Actualy, probably Rey. Probably because I fell in love ! haha
Quel est le personnage que tu aimes le moins dessiner ? Brièvement pourquoi ?
Aucun en particulier.
Quelle(s) technique(s) utilises-tu et comment procèdes-tu pour arriver à ton illustration finale ? (dessins au crayon, aquarelle, gouache, acrylique, directement sur ordi, etc.)
Cela dépend des moments, je travaille aussi bien au crayon ou à l’encre dans mon carnet Moleskine (c’était le cas pour le count-down de The Force Awakens). Mais j’aime aussi dessiner directement sur ma tablette Cintiq, car j’ai pas mal de brushs très agréables à utiliser. En revanche la mise en couleur est toujours réalisée sur Photoshop avec la Cintiq. Je trouve cela plus flexible.
What is the character you do not like to draw the most ? Please explain us why.
None in particular.
Which techniques do you use to reach the final work ? (pencil, watercolour, gouache, acrylic painting, computer, etc.)
It depends on the time, I work both in pencil or ink in my Moleskine notebook (this was the case for the count-down of The Force Awakens). But I also like to draw directly on my Cintiq tablet, because I have a lot of very nice brushes to use.
However the color layout is always done on Photoshop with the Cintiq. I find it more flexible.
Quelle est l’illustration que tu as préféré réaliser ou que tu trouves la mieux aboutie ? Pourquoi ?
Probablement le croquis encré ou Vader et Kylo Ren se font face. Au delà de l’aspect final, les conditions d’exécutions étaient particulièrement délicates. Après un rapide croquis au crayon, j’ai encré directement sur mon carnet avec un brushpen, et ainsi respecté les règles du challenge Inktober. Vu le contexte, je suis donc plutôt fier du résultat.
What is the illustration that you like to have worked on the most or the best looking one according to you ? Why ?
Probably the sketches inked where Vader and Kylo Ren are face to face. Beyond the final aspect, the terms of performances were particularly sensitive. After a quick pencil sketch, I inked directly on my notebook with Brushpen, to respect the rules of Inktober challenge. With this context, I am rather proud of the result.
En plus de Star Wars sur quels univers travailles-tu ? Et lequel est ton favori ?
A vrai dire, je travaille essentiellement sur mon propre univers, celui qui servira de toile de fond à La Mécanique de la Pomme et qui m’occupe déjà depuis de nombreuses années.
What are the other universes you usually work on? What is your favorite one, if any ?
Actually, I mostly worked on my own universe, one that will serve as a backdrop to “La Mécanique de la Pomme” who already holds me for many years.
De quel autre illustrateur aimes-tu particulièrement le travail ? Une illustration précise de lui peut-être ?
Moebius et Otomo sont mes influences principales. J’ai également longuement analysé les peintures de Ralph McQuarrie et James Gurney, ainsi que le trait tout en souplesse de Iain McCaig. Dans un autre genre, j’aime aussi beaucoup de style brut et sombre de Mike Mignola.
Do you have any preferred artist amongst others? Maybe a specific illustration of him?
Moebius and Otomo are my main influences. I also analyzed the paintings of Ralph McQuarrie and James Gurney for a long time and the related flexibility while Iain McCaig. In another genre, I also like a lot of the raw and dark style of Mike Mignola.
As-tu déjà été approché pour participer à des conventions ou Comic Con ?
Non !
Comme MIB est aussi un site de collectionneurs, es-tu collectionneur ? Une pièce rare ou favorite ?
J’ai l’âme d’un collectionneur et je suis fasciné par les beaux objets, mais je n’ai jamais poussé très loin cette tendance. Si je devais choisir une pièce, probablement mes éditions Hetzel des romans de Jules Verne.
Do you plan to travel in Europe for a convention or any artists show ? If yes, where ? If no, would you be interrested in joining such events ?

I have the soul of a collector and I’m fascinated by beautiful things, but I never pushed this trend so far. If I had to pick one piece, probably it will be my Hetzel editions of the novels of Jules Verne.

Tout à fait ! Et je regrette de ne pas y avoir succombé plus tôt à vrai dire. Je suis sur Tumblr depuis deux ans environ et encore moins pour ce qui est d’Instagram. J’essaie néanmoins de partager un contenu soigné, qu’il soit professionnel ou personnel.

Absolutely ! I regret do not have succumbed earlier. I’m on Tumblr for about two years and less for Instagram. I still try to share a careful content, whether professional or personal.
Où peut-on se procurer tes œuvres ?
Je n’ai jamais fait de commission à proprement parler mais j’y songe. De même j’envisage d’ouvrir un shop pour commercialiser certaines illustrations, mais j’attends d’avoir davantage de poids sur les réseaux avant de me lancer.

Where can we get/buy your work ?
I’ve never done commission, but I think of it. Also I plan to open a shop to sell some illustrations, but I expect to have more weight on social networks before I started.
