La journée avant la tenue du Comic-Con, je me suis rendu place Bonaventure en matinée pour voir ce qui se préparait pour le week-end. Mon instinct de Jedi avait vu juste !
Vers la fin de la matinée, lors de mon départ, je me dirigeais vers le métro lorsque j’aperçu à un feu rouge la De Lorean tout droit sortie du film « Retour vers le Futur. » Je croyais rêver et je l’imaginais alors prendre un départ fulgurant pour atteindre les 88 miles à l’heure et disparaître sous une pluie d’étincelles !!
N’étant pas poursuivie par de quelconques terroristes, la De Lorean reparti tout doucement vers la place Bonaventure. Croyant qu’elle était entrée dans l’immeuble, j’ai eu la surprise de la retrouver devant la place, portes grandes ouvertes, prête à être admirée. Les réactions des passants étaient sans équivoque, tous surpris avec des « wow ! » et « est-ce la vraie ? »
Oui, c’était bel et bien la machine à voyager dans le temps, qui, sillonnant les routes de l’Amérique du Nord, faisait sa première visite au Québec. Après ce petit coup médiatique d’environ 45 minutes sous les projecteurs, le bolide reparti avec son vrombissement de moteur légendaire, accompagné de la musique thème du film. Bien sûr, la De Lorean était présente dans le salon tout au long de l’événement pour amasser des fonds pour la fondation de Michael J. Fox pour la recherche sur la maladie de Parkinson.
Il était donc possible de se faire photographier au volant de la voiture, en faisant un don que nous placions où Doc insérait le plutonium. À leur stand, où nous prenions possession de notre photo officielle, était aussi vendu un artwork pour le 25ème anniversaire du film, limité à 1000 exemplaires, dont l’artiste présent, Oliver Holler, nous la dédicaçait.
The day before the Comic-Con, I decided to go to the « Place Bonaventure » in the morning and watch the potential preparations for the week-end. My Jedi sense were right!
At the end of the morning, while I was going to the tube station, I noticed at a traffic light the « Back To The Future »‘s De Lorean. I thought I was dreaming and I imagined it starting and burning its tires to reach the 88mph before vanishing in flames as in the movies!
No terrorist was in sight, so the De Lorean rolled normally and slowly to the « Place Bonaventure ». I thought that the car would have parked inside the building, but in fact, it was on the plaza with its doors opened to be admired. The passer-by’s were not emotionless and most of them were very surprised with some « Wow! » and « Is it the real one? »
Indeed, it was the time machine driving in North America and on its first visit to Québec. After this little marketing show of forty-five minutes, the car left with its typical engine sound and the movie soundtrack. Of course, the De Lorean was at the convention during the whole event to get funds for Michael J. Fox Foundation, for financing the research on the Parkinson disease.
It was possible to be seated behind the steering wheel and to be shot there in exchange of a donation, where Doc Brown usually puts the plutonium. At their booth, to get our photograph, it was possible to purchase the 25th anniversary artwork limited to 1,000 copies. Its artist, Oliver Holler, was there to autograph it.
