Avant de vous parler de Main Event, l’interview de George Lucas qui a eu lieu le samedi, j’aimerais juste faire un clin d’œil à la venue de George Lucas pour visiter les stands du salon vendredi matin bien avant tout le monde. L’équipe de Mintinbox s’est faufilée parmi la trentaine de personnes réunies pour la venue discrète de George. Ce dernier a été très surpris par la qualité des réalisations des dioramas de la Garnison Belge, et a dédicacé la patte de l’AT-TE. Après un petit tour aux arts shows, George a fait un stop chez Gentle Giant où le staff du fabricant lui a présenté les nouveautés, et une petite séance photo a eu lieu auprès du Jabba Life-Size de Gentle Giant. S’en est suivi un réel moment d’émotion pour l’un des staffeurs de MIB qui n’a pas manqué de remercier Monsieur George Lucas directement pour ce qu’il avait fait.
Mais maintenant, passons à l’événement central de Star Wars Celebration V : Main Event.
Pour toute l’équipe, cela a commencé à peu près vers 21h vendredi soir, lorsque les premiers mibiens se mettent dans la file d’attente pour assister au show. Celle-ci s’agrandit rapidement derrière nous, et il est sûr que les arrivants vers 4 ou 5 heures du matin n’auront pas de place. La nuit fut longue, chaude et très humide (24°C et 93% d’humidité) mais le temps passe plus vite qu’on ne le croie entre fans. Durant nos quatorze heures d’attentes, nous avons eu une intervention musicale de Jay Laga’aia, ainsi que la venue vers 2 heures du matin des voix de The Clone Wars qui ont été super avec leurs publics.
C’est à 6h du matin que les portes du Convention Center se sont ouvertes et que nous avons pu récupérer notre précieux sésame, l’accès à la salle où aurait lieu l’intervention de George Lucas, l’excitation monte, mais il reste encore cinq heures à attendre.
À 10h30 nous rentrons dans la salle, où nous assistons à un show à l’américaine animé par un DJ, qui nous fait danser, bouger, puis Jay Laga’aia (encore lui) entre en scène et nous introduit Jon Stewart. Arrive le moment tant attendu : George Lucas Himself entre en scène. Je ne vous détaillerai pas toute l’interview qui fut sérieuse, mais drôle à la fois notamment cette première question qui n’en finissait pas, se terminant par un simple, « Pourquoi ? ». Puis ce fut le moment des annonces avec bien sûr la présentation en vidéo de Papanoida et du frère de Dark Maul dans The Clone Wars. Ainsi que des très attendus Blu-Rays de la Saga, avec la présentation d’une scène coupée de ROTJ. Puis ce fut au tour de Mark Hamill et Carrie Fisher de rejoindre George un court instant sur scène.
Un pur instant de bonheur !
Before writing about the Main Event – the Saturday’s interview of George Lucas – we would like to highlight the visit of the Maker, who visited the booths on Friday morning earlier than anyone else. The MintInBox team was among the happy few (30 persons) to attend the discreet visit of George. He was very surprised by the dioramas made by the Belgian Garrison and he even autographed one of the AT-TE claw. After visiting the Art Show, George stopped by Gentle Giant’s booth, where the new products were shown to him, and he took the pose next to GG’s life-size Jabba The Hutt. Then, one of our staffer got a blush, when he got the opportunity to thank the Maker for what he has done.
But now, pass on to Celebration V’s main event: Main Event!
It happened at around 21:00 on Friday evening: the first MiB members were starting to queue up to attend the show. The line started to grow bigger and bigger with the time ticking. People coming at 4:00 or 5:00 would not get any seat. That was an obvious statement. The night was long, warm and very damp (24°C, 93% moisture), but it is timeless when one is among other fans. Even if we waited more than fourteen hours, the fans got small shows and events to distract them during the night: Jay Laga’aia and his musical play, and at two o’clock, the cast behind the voices of The Clone Wars popped in and was very entertaining for their audience.
The gates of the Convention Center opened at 6:00 and we got access to what we were waiting for so long: the hall, where the interview of George Lucas would take place. The excitement grew bigger and bigger, but we still had five hours to wait.
At 10:30, we entered the hall and we got a show (“à l’américaine” as we say in French). We were entertained by a DJ willing to make us danse and move. Then once again, Jay Laga’aia went on the stage and introduced to us Jon Stewart. And then “came” the event: the arrival on stage of George Lucas. We will not enter into details for the interview, which was a serious one, but it was also funny as for example with this first question, a neverending question in fact finishing with a simple “Why?” Later on, announces were made, such as the introduction video of Papanoida and Darth Maul’s brother in The Clone Wars. The long expected Saga BluRay edition was, at last, made public with a never-before-seen ROTJ scene. At the end, a special reunion took place: Luke, Leia and the Maker!
On the whole, it was a real happiness moment !
