Le fabricant Mattel avec sa gamme Hot Wheels est présent dans deux lieux différents durant ces quatre jours de Celebration : en tant que sponsor dans le hall d’entrée et en tant qu’exposant dans le hall principal.
Dès son arrivée, le visiteur pouvait voir des voitures de toutes marques telles que Ford, Pontiac, Hyundai, customisées aussi bien à l’extérieur qu’à l’intérieur. Elles sont rebaptisées avec des noms très évocateurs : Red-7 Carfighter, F-Wing, Red 2, Sithspawn, Star Wars Raptor, Ivor Fett, Wraith. La plupart comportent des unités R2 comme co-pilotes, avec pour le plus chanceux placé bien au chaud derrière le pare-brise arrière. Le Ford F-150 reste le plus impressionnant par ses dessins à l’aérographe et avec ses nombreuses décidasses d’acteurs et même celle de George Lucas !
Pour les modèles réduits produits par Mattel, il n’y a pas de réelles nouveautés présentées dans les vitrines. Par contre, il y a la vente de l’exclusivité pour la Celebration : le R2-KT. Cette voiture a été faite aux couleurs maintenant très connues du droïde rose et blanc, qui a été conçu par la 501ème et qui est l’emblème d’une œuvre de charité pour les enfants malades. Comme toutes les exclusivités de cette année, La voiture R2-KT fut très rapidement « Sold out ». On pouvait aussi voir la voiture grandeur nature de Dark Vador, avec ses formes très agressives.
Mattel, the toy maker, with its Hot Wheels brand could be seen in various places during this Celebration: as a sponsor in the entrance hall, but also as an exhibitor in the main hall.
As soon as he arrived, the visitor could see cars of many makes: Ford, Pontiac, Hyundai; all customized as much outside than inside. They were all named with very specific names which gave the theme right away: Red-7 Carfighter, F-Wing, Red 2, Sithspawn, Star Wars Raptor, Ivor Fett, Wraith, etc. Most of them had astromechs as co-pilots, and some of them having a nice and warm place in the back of the booty window. The Ford F-150 was certainly the most impressive: its airbrush paintings and autograph of many actors, including George Lucas!
Concerning the toys, we didn’t see any new piece in the display cases. But there was the convention exclusivity: the Hot Wheels’ R2-KT. This small car had the famous pink and white livery of the nice droid, designed by the 501st Legion and which is the symbol of a charity for sick kids.
Of course, like for any exclusivity of this edition, the R2-KT car was rapidly “Sold out“.
The car of the Dark Lord of the Sith was also there, the 1:1 scale one 🙂 identifiable by its aggressive shape.
