Au premier abord le centre de convention semblait un peu vide, pour les panels et les apparitions sur scène, mais ce fut tout le contraire.
Les organisateurs nous ont gratifié d’un planning chargé avec des shows tous plus intéressants les uns que les autres.
Tout d’abord les acteurs sur scène. Accueillis sur la main Stage par un véritable show man: Warwick Davis. Ce dernier a su animer la scène pendant 3 jours. Nous retiendrons les fantastiques interventions sur scène du gentleman Anglais Anthony Daniels, des 4 Boba Fett et leur père Jango sur scène qui ont fait le show tous les 5, sans oublier l’Empereur en personne venu partager son expérience sur Star Wars.
As we’ve already said, although the convention center would seem a bit empty at first sight, it was the opposite feeling during the panels and the guest shows. The convention staff offered us a busy program with some interesting shows and conferences.
First, actors on stage. Introduced to the audience by hosting guest Warwick Davis, that real show man manages to animate the stage all three days. The terrific appearance of English gentleman Anthony Daniels will be « long remembered », as the one of five Fetts all together (the four Boba and their « father » Jango). We won’t neither forget the Emperor Palpatine (aka Ian McDiarmid) himself who shared his Star Wars experience with the fans.
Mais d’autres panels plus originaux étaient également de la partie, les fans de storyboard ont été enthousiasmés par les panels et master classe de Doug Chiang et Ian McCaig qui se produisaient pour la première fois sur scène lors d’une Star Wars Celebration.
Le clou du spectacle était la première intervention devant les fans de Kathleen Kennedy. La présidente de Lucasfilm a passé son baptême du feu avec brio, sans toutefois faire de grande annonce concernant Star Wars Épisode VII (les questions à propos du film étant d’ailleurs interdites). On retiendra tout de même l’intervention vidéo de John Williams annonçant son grand retour pour la nouvelle trilogie.
But other more original panels took place too : fans of design and storyboarding would be glad to meet Doug Chiang and Ian McCaig in conferences and master classes. The two designers attended their first Star Wars Celebration.
The highlight was the first Kathleen Kennedy meeting with fans. The new Lucasfilm chairman passed the exam brilliantly, without making any important announcement about Episode VI (questions about the new film were forbidden). We’ll keep in mind the video message of John Williams formalizing his return for the new trilogy though.
Pour le staff de Mintinbox deux panels nous tenait particulièrement à cœur. Tout d’abord l’intervention de Pierre D’Ovidio venu présenter le documentaire perdu de Michel Parbot. L’occasion unique de découvrir ce reportage sorti de l’ombre par Pierre et remis au goût du jour par Kevin Sempé. Ce fut la première fois depuis plus de 30 ans que le reportage était diffusé.
Le deuxième panel, auquel Mintinbox participa fut celui de « Save the Lars Homestead », où Michel Verpoorten participa à l’aventure en mai 2012. Ce panel fut l’occasion de faire connaissance avec l’équipe qui restaura l’igloo et d’en savoir plus sur le déroulement de l’opération. En bonus à la fin du panel chacun des participant à peu repartir avec un patch exclusif dessiné par Michel Verpoorten.
As Mintinbox staffers, we cared very much about two panels in particular : the oral presentation of Pierre D’Ovidio introducing Michel Parbot’s lost documentary, a unique opportunity to discover that TV coverage unearthed by Pierre and brought up to date by Kevin Sampé. The film had not been broadcasted for 30 years… MIB contributed to the panel « Save the Lars Homestead » too. Michel Verpoorten was a part of the adventure in april 2012. The conference enabled us to make the team’s acquaintance, the small group who refurbished the igloo, and to learn more about that epic operation. As a bonus, at the end of the presentation each member of the audience could get an exclusive patch designed by Michel Verpoorten.
